Scientology Training

Course Room Central to the doctrine of Scientology is not to experience spiritual betterment for the sake of it alone, but rather to fully understand the theory and practice of this process so that one may also apply the technology of Scientology to others, allowing them more freedom and awareness in turn.

Scientologists understand that knowledge and understanding are not tools of just a few revered men, but rather is the route to a better world. By making the philosophy of Scientology and life available to everyone, the road can be open for anyone.

Students of Scientology study various courses - each dealing with specific concepts and activities in Scientology. The courses are delivered in course rooms at a Church of Scientology. There are various types of courses, including:

  • Life Improvement Courses: which provide tools to handle a small area of ones own life, such as personal integrity or communication. These are short one week courses.
  • Volunteer Minister Courses: Gives one the tools to help another in life using Scientology in short courses over a few days. More about the Volunteer Ministers can be read here.
  • Scientology Book and Lecture courses: Any of the basic books and lectures of Scientology can be studied in a formal course room so that one can get a thorough founding in the essentials of Scientology and Dianetics. Course lengths differ according to the text studied.
  • Extension Courses: Study a Scientology book at home in your own time, sending your lessons in to a supervisor to be graded.
  • Academy Levels: Longer courses to thoroughly teach a student how to audit another. These are professional level courses with some pre-requisites.
  • Administration Courses: teach one the technology of management and organisation. Courses vary in length from a couple of days to months.

The fundamental fact of these courses is that they are all designed to be practical, and their end result is a person who can apply the materials learnt in the course, rather than learn the material for only academic reasons.

Course Rooms in a Church of Scientology comprise of many students, several of which could be on different courses. Each student has a pack of materials that he will be studying, which may include lectures on CD and books, as well as a checksheet giving the sequence of study, as well as any practical assignments and essays to be completed. A Supervisor in the course room will allow the student to study at his own pace, assisting him should he become stuck or need other help. Many of the courses will require practical exercises that are done with another student. These are done to practice over areas that have been studied so that they are drilled until well understood.

Once complete on a course a student may have to complete a short examination in order to demonstrate that he really did understand the materials. After passing he is awarded a certificate which is recognised by other Scientologists, and in some cases outside of the Church.
